Description

SUMMARY:

Abi is a 110 cm, AI‑powered social humanoid robot created by Andromeda Robotics (Melbourne & Boston) to provide companionship, emotional support, and cognitive engagement for elderly residents, assisted‑living communities, and children in hospitals. Abi uses generative AI, emotion recognition, personalized memory, and playful, animated behavior to build long‑term relationships with users.

EDITORIAL:

Abi represents a new category of humanoid robotics: not industrial, not service‑task‑oriented, but emotion‑first. Grace Brown (founder, age 22 at launch) designed Abi to be:

- Bright, colorful, and non‑threatening — intentionally not metallic or mechanical.

- Emotionally intelligent — recognizing faces, moods, and social cues.

- A relationship‑builder — remembering preferences, stories, and routines.

- A scalable care‑support tool — reducing loneliness in aged‑care facilities.

Unlike traditional humanoids, Abi is not built for manipulation or mobility. Its purpose is connection, not physical labor.
